This Quick Setup guide contains a step-by-step workflow to help you move your first steps with Xsens DOT. This guide will explain how to download the Xsens DOT App, turn on the sensors, place them on the body and record data. Additionally, we invite you to read the complete product documentation at https://www.xsens.com/xsens-dot.
Before starting, take a look at the minimum hardware requirements from release notes on our developer page, to make sure you don’t run into troubles along the way. Also note that Xsens DOT App is not supported on Android tablets at the moment.
Download the app: Follow this article in order to download the Xsens DOT App.
Turn on the sensors: connect it to a micro USB cable with a power supply. Afterwards, they can be disconnected from the cable. If you have the Xsens DOT Charger, you can power the charger and all the sensors in the charger will switch on automatically.
Run the app: Open the app and follow this article to learn how to use the Xsens DOT App.
Place the sensors on the body: Place the sensor in the pocket of the strap. It is recommended placing the sensor horizontally, to avoid excessive movement. Once the sensor is firmly inside the strap, place the strap around the spot you chose. For general human motion tracking, certain spots on the body segments work better than others; check out our BASE article for additional information on sensor placement.
Power off: After you have done the recording, power off the sensor by pressing and holding the orange button for about 3 seconds.
Tips and tricks
- After charging, make sure to switch off the tracker if not needed.
- When left idle for 10 minutes, the sensors will go in power saving mode. To activate them, simply shake them or press the orange button.
- If you have multiple sensors, identifying them could be quite time-consuming. We recommend attaching a physical label on each tracker and assigning the same name TAG on the app.
Sensor placement: take a look at our tutorial video on sensor placement for MVN. Even though the sensors are different, the recommended spots are the same
